A Busy Summer for Washington Heritage
This summer saw strong community engagement across our HistoryPin, heritage and holiday programmes.
Digital Maps
Three new digital heritage maps were completed and shared at Albany Carnival and the Washington Heritage Partnership Network event, generating real public interest and requests for future guided walks. Work also progressed on our next map, The Chemical Works, following a full test route completed with volunteers.
Glebe Bowls Club 70th anniversary
Glebe Bowling Club’s 70th Anniversary brought partners and residents together for a lively celebration, including heritage displays, music and the unveiling of a commemorative mining tub. The event sparked new ideas for adult heritage activities now being explored.
Bowes Railway Holiday Sessions
Bowes Railway delivered five hands‑on holiday sessions for children and families enjoying heritage‑based crafts, trails and demonstrations.
Fun at the Carnival
At Albany Carnival, the Heritage tent welcomed visitors of all ages, with digital maps, heritage handling items and competition information attracting steady interest and sparking personal stories and memories.
Partnership networking event
The summer also included a well‑attended Washington Heritage Partnership Network event, where updates were shared , and where we discussed opportunities for the future and how we continue to strengthen collaboration.
