We came together to form Never Stop Learning (NSL) in 2023 and have around 25 members, meeting regularly in Washington. <\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">It is our passionate belief that community and adult learning are an important element in improving people\u2019s lives and opportunities, especially those living in disadvantaged communities in our region. Adult learning should stimulate critical thinking and lifelong learning can have a social justice purpose. It can and should provide more than just skills-based learning courses for work. It should improve the confidence of participants to engage in wider society, and encourage democratic involvement, partly through opportunities to influence the content and delivery of learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-384710e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"384710e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Experience<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a33c265 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a33c265\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Never Stop Learning hold monthly meetings at the Arts Centre, Washington, to plan research, publications, conferences, and campaigns, to promote a wide range of transformative adult education, encouraging democratic principles. Information is shared on new developments and smaller working groups are arranged. Members regularly socialise after meetings.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">NSL will engage in ongoing discussion and correspondence with local authorities, mayoral combined authorities, MPs and community-based learning groups and centres to promote these principles. With these proposals, we hope to broaden the reach of adult education.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a6a9bd7 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a6a9bd7\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-759b3d7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"759b3d7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><p>Look out for<\/p><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0169685 e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"0169685\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8905142 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8905142\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin-bottom: 32px;\">We have written and published an illustrated book about pioneering women\u2019s education, \u2018The Time of our Lives; Women\u2019s Education in Washington New Town\u2019, supported by a grant from Washington Heritage Partnership. NSL members organised and participated in a book launch and joined the \u2018Washington at 60\u2019 event, to promote and distribute the book.<\/p><p>Our second book, about Trades Union adult education, to be launched in the spring of 2026, will be our second publication, and is supported by the Lipman Miliband Trust. An adult education conference is also planned for Spring 2026, supported by the Raymond Williams Foundation.
